As you know I own Palm Pre as I thought it’s good as I mention my one of blog some time ago. However, I saw the chart that there show the guide on compare for smartphones with multi-touch that found from WIRED online.

I thought of that and I would like to point for deaf who interest to get awesome smartphone that make you rocks dude! So, here is estimate on how much cost we, Deaf would spend within 2 years contract.

At WordCamp 2009 at Dallas, I brief meet Lorelle on early morning as she point at my shirt as she said something as I wore Seattle in bright orange. Either she loves that city or it could be where she comes from. With smile each other, we did.

Until I learn that she is really into Star Trek stuff. So wick! I’m certainly that my friend would love to meet her!

Anyway, on Sunday as the second day for WordCamp, there was just 4 of us that day on Sunday during our lunch beak time. We were join at the table to relax while eat.

Suddenly, that appear Lorelle seems interest to have interview with us. To be frankly, we may not feel comfortable to take it without our interpreters. Of course, they were on lunch break somewhere. Asked to doing it later with interpreter that way we could give the better without mistook of something. Just two of them are well ability of read-lip.

You know, read-lip is never being flawless. I understand that not everybody know it’s flawless. So, it seem we don’t see her come to us after break when the meeting come up until the end.

Moment ago, I start to learn from Twitter that it seem that Lorelle start to give an opinion toward attend about the issues with Deaf about a year ago. I find it very interesting. Check it out at Lorelle on WordPress

Therefore, I’m able to get my Palm pre activate and play around for a quite time. After have little headache on get something I look for and doing this and this. It’s much different than I usually on other smartphone that running with Palm OS. It’s whole new level as it called WebOS, it’s not same as before. However, I find something surprise on so far what I seen. I’m give the basic on what Deaf would use on daily.

QWERTY
The keyboard is similar as Centro, my previous mobile phone, after I complain but patience and grows habit to typing influence. Now, on Palm pre, it felt bit big during the wide but not same as Treo. At first, it does feel awkward because it’s very slim instead being thick to hold while typing. I’m getting there in no time to typing fine. It’s better than typing on the screen – physical keyboard rules.

E-MAIL
It’s so like ChatterEmail, which I don’t need to worry about pay more bucks to get an app to turn into pushy E-mail for Palm pre. Yes, I can use my own domain address with IMAP support and turn into pushy e-mail instead use the common (more like dull) E-mail such as Sprint’s or dull blackberry’s e-mail address. The set is pretty simple as I don’t need to input the IMAP and STMP. However, I find one minor problem that when I tried to send to someone. It acts being slow for no reason. Hope the bug being fix.

SMS
Text Message become nicer looking than the old one, that make you feel like you’re in chat room than rather see message individual. Because it would help you being aware what our conversation suppose be. I’ll take SMS more often than use E-mail. Interesting, there is AIM and Google Talk on setting, that mean you can use it as IM in SMS program. I test on AIM to IMing someone and it’s medium speed. I would say it’s accepted to use for Relay IM during fair speed on responded. MMS is also in there, it’s nice and simple to use.

MEMOS (use as notepad)
Use it as notepad to type something and show to the cashier to order something as example. It loading little quite time while in line as other people are whine for their stomach. Anyway, it’s unfortunately, I don’t see the size on font being change that I’m afraid anyone would have hard time to read without glasses. Hate it when it happens.

VIBRATE
First, I thought it’s frickin weak. But I’m somewhere wrong and able to notice when someone send message to me. I can feel it while busy on my own mind. It’s more like 50-50, I would failed to aware of vibrate in my pocket. Oh, it shakes just once, my assure it’s during the small size, much thin than iPhone during the slide between keyboard and display. I would rather to have the vibrate shaking 3 times. But think about it, when you’re in desperate to contact someone, you’re usually – always on your hand and it either display on screen at bottom or vibrate anyway.

• Open PDF, DOC, EXL, etc.
• Camera with LED flashing – good picture
• Easy to switch Bluetooth/Wi-fi ON/OFF
• Web is similar as Safari (powered by WebKit)

CON
• Drain battery so fast, not ideal for heavy user
• Limited video format to play
• Poor vibrate but you can notice somehow
• No Sync to backup to own computer

My thought, I saying I must be happy to have Palm pre than pain-in-ass with Centro. I love new GUI, it make more interesting to closed the program. Oh, I’m not recommend for someone who doesn’t like Gmail or don’t have own domain address during E-mail system. And don’t use IM too much, too. The grade, I’m give is 3 and half out of 5.

Someday, I will come back for more explorer on their food and more locate for sight and, of course, more relax on beach. Enjoy!

San Juan, Puerto Rico

However, on highway I spotted the billboard that I don’t see often. Well, not like one here in mainland US. I see Sprint Relay.

Billboard said “Si no oyes bien, llamanos”
TRANSLATE: “If you can’t hear me, call us”

I puzzled myself, that it’s not like every deaf would able to see the billboard in San Juan, there are only 2.5 million population, just 10 percent of them are deaf, hearing impaired or loss hearing would spot the only one in the place in San Juan nearly on beach.

Neverless, the day I attend to DeafNation, I got chance to meet the lady – Elizabeth in person. She make simple explain that it’s more than relay and wireless service. They do help whom don’t know about how to use communicate when they cannot afford such a luxury thing we have. You know, TTY – they don’t die. You can’t say that TTY is dead. They’re still alive and kick.

I must say I’m glad that TTY isn’t dead. Because it’s our thing for Deaf’s sake.

Oh, I know that Sprint Relay plan to release specs for deaf to have a special package. I can’t wait when words come out.

Anyway, the touch-screen is like, again, iPhone when I look up on Google Maps – everything on features seem great! But…

The vibrate…. It’s too WEAK. There higher chance, I couldn’t notice the signal when someone send me the message. Terrible, isn’t it? I don’t think it’s no way I could feel from my pocket. Maybe I could hold the palm on my palm and await for someone send the text-message to me. Riiiight, it’s getting worst as Centro. How much I miss my Treo 700p, where it was perfect. I could able to notice the slow blink that tells me I have new text-message incoming and rapid flash as new e-mail.

Okay, enough… I don’t think I should get Palm Pre. I’m so disappointment. Otherwise, it would be so awesome to carry it with me. So, I’m wait and see what happen on 3rd-generation iPhone announcement from Apple Conference tomorrow at noon (CST) to make up my mind on new iPhone or Palm Pre. No promise!
