Policeman found a poor teenage girl in alley with cover of blood. Turn out it’s Deaf Jane Doe (actress: McKenzie Applegate), who tried defend herself from the kidnapper who abuses her and he already dead. The court orders Dr. Bones to examine on the live victim to find the answer.

Deaf Jane Doe aka Amy aka Samantha
Deaf Jane Doe, (actress: McKenzie Applegate) is the scary girl who tried asking for a help. From what I understand the situation on being abuse that anyone would trends to have blank face or grief after being shock. Since I do not see much of the expressive while make out of communicate with ASL. That what I would agree on how her perform appears. Her true parents appear to know ASL. That’s one question I would like to know if they’re deaf or not. My best guess, they’re hearing, I’m sure.

Oh, if you wonder if that actress, Applegate, is deaf or hearing. Just unfortunately that actress is hearing and had skill in ASL or either being train. She just makes her perform that well. I recall by seen her in Desperate Housewife a while time ago.

Lawyer, Interpreter or Social Work?
Meacham (actress: Michelle L. Gardner) told that she is attorney who know ASL and protect for Jane Doe while Dr. Bones is need to follow from the court’s order, have Jane Doe to be cooperate by take some sample from her mouth and hair. Yet, from what I seen that Meacham’s role act like if she is social work the way she is assist the communicate for her like if she is an interpreter.

It’s rare to seen lawyer who have ability in ASL. Yes, it would be nice and wonderful service to have one. I’m not sure about 100% on how the system works. By the way that Gardner, the actress is hearing.

American Regional Sign Language
Just an concept as “American Regional English” when Dr. Bones figures on where Deaf Jane Doe’s sign language come from. It’s neat that they’re using high-tech to detect on her sign to find the word it match where is base from location – Pennsylvania. It makes excellent sense on how we grew up from school and friends in which location and become our prime communicate. It’s like you said, “Coke” in Southern and “Pop” in Northeastern.

I thought it’s amazing technology to find different sign language that would tell where from. I’m sure that you may remember example from CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: The Two Mrs. Grissoms where Marlee Matlin played in, someone was able to realize from someone’s unique sign that tell where the region is from. This time, that one is much different. However, I do not think they would able to make specs on where location is, if it just a luck show up.

Final thought
I enjoy when I don’t hear any issues with Cochlear implant (CI) like the first 3 or 4 shows like CSI, Law & Order and House MD that had to be involve with CI. That program makes thing feel more reality to deal with deaf when they’re in trouble. I’m little disappointment that find out that actress who plays as Deaf Jane Doe isn’t actual deaf. So, I give it 4 out of 5.

If you haven’t seen, you have 4 weeks left until the free episode on hulu.com will expire from this post’s date: Bones: The Signs in the Silence

Did I say that I like to watch something? Yeah, I have mention about 2 years ago about the portable TV with Closed Caption (CC). I have been wonder if there is any smaller than 13″ than FCC’s law required having at least, on the size to have CC. I look up around on Amazon.com and found very few portable TV with CC. Obviously, it’s up to the any company who decide and being kind to add a cool feature in it.

That portable TV is pretty affordable. So, I decided and brought Viore 7″ Handheld LCT TV. Until, I got it in my hand. I look up and play around it. It has a built-in ATSC tuner, which is awesome, also it include the cute tiny antenna. The scanner pick most excellent signal from my location up to 30 channels. Too many crap networks, just few major that I care: FOX, NBC, ABC and CBS.

The quality on display appears to be nice shape. Not sore, but not best high-def appears during the cheap LCD. I am not complaining about it.

Here the CC issues from what I seen, I find it well read-able while watch the local news. That’s great. However, I find one poor position on where live CC appears in about middle lower. Unlike I mention on ABC network, where CC was little middle on upper there. My guess is that digital CC doesn’t go that well as I thought.

BONUS: There is AV (audio/video) plug-in on the side lower there, it’s fortunately, I have the accessories cable that turn into Composite video. I tested it plug to my videophone. It works great! It’s clear as I could see it.

PRO
• Smaller than 13″ to carry around
• Excellent ATSC signal, no power antenna required
• Allow to custom ratio display
• Remote with easy to turn CC ON
• Easy navigator on menus

CON
• Thick than 2 inch
• Dark area on display during angel view
• No digital CC, just standard
• No Composite video, accessories is required

New law would be required to have Closed Caption (CC) in public such as bars and restaurants. I think that would be great. It’s not only for deaf but also for in noise rooms where full of people are talk too loud.

All bars and restaurants with TVs would be required to show closed captioning under legislation quickly working its way through a Senate committee.

But the measure hit a snag Thursday on its way out of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee.

The bill is aimed at making it easier for deaf people to watch programs in bars and restaurants. Though committee members all said they liked the bill in principle, some thought it might be overkill to subject every patron to the text running across the bottom of each screen.

Current, you can always be kind to the waitress or server to turn CC on while you can enjoy watch something happen in the world. I have done it several time. Rarely, there was difficult for people who are unfamiliar on how to set the CC from the features. Bummer, all brand television has weird CC to turn on. Should have CC on remote to notice easy.

For some thoughtful, there are certainly people that I have hear or know that been complain, when CC appear to block in certain area. I think it’s better if they should set the transparent background to meet their satisfactory. Every HDTV with ATSC is always trend come with it. Of course, it causes the problem with cable box that DOESN’T offer the optional. I think the new FCC law that should told to every cable box from the cable company would need to re-mod to digital CC to meet.

Thank Miss-Delectable!

I see Emma doesn’t want anybody know that she is deaf. Don’t want to have someone pity on her as the lower on. Yet, she appear to look like she is hearing and yet have problem to deal with her power. Went to see doctor who see know the sign language, even without certification interpreter, help to find what’s wrong with Emma.

Being Deaf, it’s sometime being sucks that we have to pay pretty much than hearing does on the several important devices to be aware around at home. I had set the estimate on house with 2 bedrooms. The best as possible as I found the cheap from accessible store online such as Harris Communication that would give us the best assure on cost.

Notice, the telephone signaler doesn’t require for hearing because every audio ringer has already include much range around in the house. It’s unfair that we had to get the flashing, which doesn’t effect so well in large range but small. It gives the difficult with videophone or telephone with TTY that we may not answer the incoming call on time than hearing does. Since it appear only 1 to 2 room, depend how strong the flashing is and where you set the signaler at. The more you add the receiver, the more you spend cost on where you want to be seen.

COST is the issues because of the small attendant on deaf market compare to hundreds million hearing in our region. Why is that so high cost? Because of the unit is very low. Simple saying the higher unit, the each will be much cheaper. Several companies that are involved in accessible are try their best… Or not. There is only two thing we’re ALREADY relief from spend on closed caption (CC) decoder and TTY/videophone that been done in some decade years ago. Every CC is including on every television equal as hearing. TTY is being paid by most states through voucher program. Videophone is free by the FCC and other… whatever it is.

Sure, to have dog could assist a hearing for you but it comes with price by take care of pet and time of train. It cannot be always flawless system. I have recall that Oklahoma does provide the full-paid basic products to meet for deaf. I do not know the other states, unless you would stand up and make the comment about where state and do they offer…

Some deaf set videophone with HDTV, my thought, it’s pointless. Both Sorenson VP series and other videophone equipment are support only use in composite video (yellow cable) that go at 480i while HDTV display the resolution pixel: 480p, 720p or 1080p. While plug videophone to HDTV, the display looks blur compare to standard television. I felt like it gives me sore eyes.

Let me explain clear: 480i is blur or weird horizon line. 480p is sharp!

The ridiculous I saw someone set videophone to HDTV in wrong format size. Normally, all videophone’s format appears on 4:3, which normal as standard television. HDTV is mostly having 16:9 (widescreen). So, when have conversation with someone with setting at widescreen on HDTV; his or her head show more width head. It’s being STRETCH! HDTV needs to be leaving at 4:3 setting for NTSC (analog, which composite video tend support). I don’t care if you see black bar on both side. It’s standard size. Leave HDTV’s setting on display for ATSC (digital or TV show/movie with widescreen) at 16:9 or widescreen setting that makes more comfortable vision.

I can’t imagine when have conversations with someone in wrong format. Then meet in person somewhere, he or she would say, “Gee, I don’t remember your head is slim compare to what I saw you on VP.”

I guess I’m being prick. It would be nice to have new next-generation videophone with widescreen and component video/HDMI support. Unfortunately, not everybody can afford HDTV.

I had quick thought about portable television. Since FCC required at least 13” with closed captioning (CC), so the question is. Are you interest to have portable television LCD with CC and ATSC (or digital antenna)?

I had my reason that it would be good thing since NTSC will end and leave only ATSC available over the air here in America. It receives the most of clear signal to watch on television. I thought the size between 5” to 9” wouldn’t be that bad. It would be awesome to own the LCD television. Make excellent for me to watch the sport that comes with CC while I’m at game than rather have bring interpreter or someone who can interpret for you. I know it’s not 100% of what you’re actual in game that speaker make announcement that may not appear on television.

It’s good while in big city travel, usually 30 minutes to a hour of boredom. Let’s kill the boredom. Just ignore the mobile phone, unless you have important conversation or entertainment chat through it.

Pity, there is no television less than 13” with CC has existed anywhere. Just fancy portable television LCD for everybody but not us, the deaf. What’s your thought, I wonder?

I watch the DVD movie called The Stings with widescreen. It would fit awesome HDTV in 16:9. I find disappointment that DVD movie doesn’t support Closed caption. Of course, I have known there are few DVD don’t have subtitle available either! At least, this DVD do have subtitle option as I turn it on. And I change the display from standard size as 4:3 into 16:9 that would match on HDTV widescreen as theatre experience. However, I haven’t thought of the problem show up in HDTV with DVD. There is a problem that subtitle appear in wrong position and being half cut on the screen. Here are pictures

Notice different? I know it’s so nice when you see on standard TV without worry while HDTV have some problem since I brought HDTV. I have thought about return and get new latest SDTV with ATSC built-in. Keep thing simple and look great on everything I can be satisfactory in entertainment.

Speak about television that already include Closed Caption (CC) at every market that been required under FCC that the display, at least 13″, able to provide the CC for hearing impaired. However, there are new technology lately include fancy remote to make easy for everybody.

However, I have thought myself what I had seen or hear vary new television have more difficult to turn CC. Some television required to turn by remote, not under the meuns button from the television. That’s kind surprise me. And I aware that most hotel have remote and there is easy button that said “CC” to turn it on. I can notice there is no button on television to turn. But WHAT IF the remote broke? Holy cow, You’re struck! Probably end buy decode CC box like old time.

Of course, you can get universal remote control but would that work? I don’t know, thing cannot be compromise you 100% that there will control what you want. So, whatever you decide to buy new television at any store… Please check both remote and button on telvision to make sure these much easy for you.
