Usually, you know there were never have closed caption on TV show on iTunes. Since FCC pass and it does effect to many video at online that is required to have closed caption. Apple or studio don’t bother let us know there is CC being process to add.

First, I think it’s great. Usually, there are many FREE episodes enough to try out before purchase whole season. It’s very big POSITIVE!

Second, it’s non-misled as you can see label said that some, not all episode have CC. That tells so well!

Third, I hope for more available by end of this year. With search tool, it would make much easy for us to find. That’s same concept as Power Search on movie. Why not on TV shows? Keep eyes on iTunes…

Sometime ago, iTunes App on iOS doesn’t show closed caption (CC) icon on the detail page on individual film. Now, they do, in case, you don’t know. I was pleasant to know about it when I decide to download 2 films directly fro my iPod Touch before being on board to fly through oversea back to USA from Korea.

TIPS: You can also make the search by type “closed caption”, it will show up the listing in full counts of 1,810 (it actual appear only 1,791).

I’m sure everybody been rants that Netflix never offer Closed Caption (CC) on streaming That would waste our time to wait up to 3 days via snail mail. Sure, we want to be equal as other people where we can watch instantly.

However, when I hear the news about Netflix app is available for video consoles: Nintendo Wii and Sony Playstation 3 (PS3). Rumor been told there have subtitle. I hardly believe that. So, I decide to see in my own eyes. Lucky, as the Netflix account holder, I able to make the access to see what’s like. I have been play around with several. I find it very simple setting.

After download to my friend’s PS3, I’m shocked, that is CONFIRM there is subtitle optional. So, is Wii, too!

BUT…. there are very limited like concept as iTunes that you would have difficult to find movies that offer subtitle. At least, that’s start!

I still have to complain on both PS3 and Wii version as I compare. PS3 have excellent size of subtitle but poor outline that make difficult to read where the bright area motion/object are. For Wii, text with drop-shadow make incredible to read-able. But the size is narrow small. It’s more like I want to sit closer to my HDTV until I’m blind. Oh!

UPDATE: I start to puzzle about Mac and PC if they’re also available. I check it out. Yep! See this!

Did I say that I like to watch something? Yeah, I have mention about 2 years ago about the portable TV with Closed Caption (CC). I have been wonder if there is any smaller than 13″ than FCC’s law required having at least, on the size to have CC. I look up around on Amazon.com and found very few portable TV with CC. Obviously, it’s up to the any company who decide and being kind to add a cool feature in it.

That portable TV is pretty affordable. So, I decided and brought Viore 7″ Handheld LCT TV. Until, I got it in my hand. I look up and play around it. It has a built-in ATSC tuner, which is awesome, also it include the cute tiny antenna. The scanner pick most excellent signal from my location up to 30 channels. Too many crap networks, just few major that I care: FOX, NBC, ABC and CBS.

The quality on display appears to be nice shape. Not sore, but not best high-def appears during the cheap LCD. I am not complaining about it.

Here the CC issues from what I seen, I find it well read-able while watch the local news. That’s great. However, I find one poor position on where live CC appears in about middle lower. Unlike I mention on ABC network, where CC was little middle on upper there. My guess is that digital CC doesn’t go that well as I thought.

BONUS: There is AV (audio/video) plug-in on the side lower there, it’s fortunately, I have the accessories cable that turn into Composite video. I tested it plug to my videophone. It works great! It’s clear as I could see it.

I think that would be great. It’s not only for deaf but also for in noise rooms where full of people are talk too loud.

All bars and restaurants with TVs would be required to show closed captioning under legislation quickly working its way through a Senate committee.

But the measure hit a snag Thursday on its way out of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee.

The bill is aimed at making it easier for deaf people to watch programs in bars and restaurants. Though committee members all said they liked the bill in principle, some thought it might be overkill to subject every patron to the text running across the bottom of each screen.

Current, you can always be kind to the waitress or server to turn CC on while you can enjoy watch something happen in the world. I have done it several time. Rarely, there was difficult for people who are unfamiliar on how to set the CC from the features. Bummer, all brand television has weird CC to turn on. Should have CC on remote to notice easy.

For some thoughtful, there are certainly people that I have hear or know that been complain, when CC appear to block in certain area. I think it’s better if they should set the transparent background to meet their satisfactory. Every HDTV with ATSC is always trend come with it. Of course, it causes the problem with cable box that DOESN’T offer the optional. I think the new FCC law that should told to every cable box from the cable company would need to re-mod to digital CC to meet.

Thank Miss-Delectable!

Everybody suppose know that SDH stand for Subtitle for Deaf and Hard of Hearing appear on DVD which was first believe be introduce from Universal Studio. They’re no longer using Closed Caption (CC). It labels to let you know that it show the sound/effect and who is spoken. While Subtitle only mean for translate to other language to learn, not specs for Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

However, on film I recently watch called District 9. I find different thing about SDH. That DVD movie is from TriStar Picture, own by Sony Entertainment, does support SDH. But don’t let the menus or display confuse you when you saw the subtitle. For brief time, I can see it’s similar from I saw first one on Blu-Ray movie. That’s how it got me think of that. But surprise, it’s not only Blu-Ray but also on DVD.

Their SDH make you think it’s CC but it’s actual SDH during the block with black background like CC. Only, different that’s it block on certainly area that I could complain. And it’s pretty bigger font that I could read-able which excellent for people with low visual. I assure it’s good thing. Suppose, its new format in market from Sony Entertainment this time and after.

Here is the screenshot that give example on what it look like.

Select ENGLISH and it appear in yellow font without block background.

Select ENGLISH SDH, it appears in alike classic CC style with bigger font. It also let you aware on who person speak.

I was excite to watch movie “Up” by Disney. I went to to Redbox as you know it’s cheap, only a buck by charge with credit card. Went to home and put in my DVD player and start to watch.

I was except to get on DVD menus like usually I would go. There is none, probably it’s Disney, I thought they protect. I turn subtitle on but it doesn’t have available. I thought, okay, I’m sure there is Closed Caption (CC) for a sure as HDTV is turn CC on with S-video cable plugged in.

Guess what? No CC has appear for few minutes, I thought that’s something very wrong. I tested on my laptop as I thought it would be no wrong. I realize the label after pop in the DVD slot, it said “UP_RENTAL”. I’m unfamiliar and thought they set the new version.

So, I went on and google about if there is common problem. I found there is, from the redbox’s weblog where I saw most comments, most are angry and disappointment.

We need to let Disney to aware about it. I’m mad! There is more from other weblog, that person have an rants opinion about this movie and studio and whatever.

Also read “How not to attain 100% captioning (DVD version)”
