Review: T-Mobile MDA
My boss got MDA and she gave to me to setting up for her email and something in there. First thing, I thought it’s impressive of size and keyboard. The keyboard is quite comfortable to typing than Sidekick I as I know so far. The processor running very nice as I like as it seem so. There is IM client, two type email program (OutLook and webmail service such as Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, etc.), MS office mobile: Excel & Word, Internet Explorer and some other features I didn’t bother to look more.
So far, the basic are required necessary on mobile phone. Only bother me that IE isn’t perfect during the size with two optional in horizontal (when keyboard is open) or vertical view (when keyboard is closed). So far, surf the web is fair as I can see some vary website where I like to see. The font is excellent to read from the display’s resolution. I must tell you, it was little difficult for me to find the font setting under Control Panel without I look at instruction book. I really don’t see big different from small to medium to large size. I may miss something.
Anyway, Instant Message Client have four: MSN, Yahoo!, AIM and ICQ. I log in my account on AIM. After test by send the message from MDA to the computer. It took about 2 to 3 seconds, normal as Sidekick. I seen my screenname status online on computer but I notice it say it been use Mobile. That make me think it would be use as SMS (text-message) tech like my Nokia phone. However, I test to send message from the computer to MDA. What a shock, it took 30 seconds to a minute for MDA to receive the message! It’s not great.
E-mail doesn’t have pushy e-mail like Blackberry, unfortunately, you have to pay extra charge for $9.99 to get E-mail Corp. Without E-mail Corp, you would have push to receive message by yourself or set to make it receive by time and time as it will drain the battery. I would suggest using SMS because it’s fancy as I send from my Nokia to MDA, just less 2 seconds. Awesome! And it’s only thing you able to know incoming message.
Somewhere on website who review about this MDA, they said the voice is terrible. I don’t bother to use because it’s useless for hearing impaired in my point of view. I have test Bluetooth from my Nokia to MDA to Nokia on picture. It pretty great but the camera from MDA isn’t good as my Nokia. How odd but Bluetooth is that I concern to tell it’s great and simple to use. Oh yeah, about eh Wi-Fi, it’s much simple than windows XP when I test on WEP, it work great. I never knew that the plan package come with hotspot. I love Hotspot! Surf the web is totally heaven!
PRO
• Great SMS
• Excellent size to keep in pocket
• Wi-fi and bluetooth are excellent to use
• comfortable to typing on QWERTY
• Affordable on package plan: Unlimited data, 300 SMS, and unlimited HotSpot for $49.99
CON
• Horrible Instant Message, very slow
• E-mail pushy required to pay extra
• Settnig webmail from AOL account is little longer to set
• 1.4 megapixels isn’t great picture (usually, need steady to shot)
My thought about this MDA, I wouldn’t need it, just stick with my Nokia 6822. Heh.
