I’m launching the new deaf social to be taking place at dinner. Deaf Taste Social is when we have meal together, socialize, share the experiences on food and drink from the local eateries. My goal is to choice the local to support, because they’re more unique and far experience than rather the chain restaurants.

How often will Deaf Taste Social host an event?
Deaf Taste Social will hold an event once a month at selected local restaurants in the metro area of Dallas & Fort Worth. Deaf Taste Social encourages its members to recommend locations for the future events.

Why is there limited availability of guests?
Deaf Taste Social will make the reservations based on the number of guests that are expected to participate at the next hosted location

I am NOT fluent in American Sign Language. Can I join with you?
Deaf Taste Social requires that all of its members use ASL. Please understand and respect Deaf individual’s needs to communicate and enjoy other’s limited company by having to accommodate new ASL learners or non signers.

The first event will held in north of Fort Worth, the name of restaurants is Chef Point Cafe. It’s new American and Seafood running by heart-soul American-African chef and owned. Make a reserve and it will happen to you something amazing!

Few weeks ago after Mata Expo, my friend and I went to check out new restaurants. The restaurants called ViUDA Bistro, own by deaf. They have 2 deaf chefs, they’re talent cooker.

Location
ViUDA Bistro, the restaurant is located in Buda, which is south of Austin at the historic downtown area, which is inspired me. The place make it very special place to eat.

Place
Inside, it’s cozy, mix the old building with some modern art place on wall and ceil where the windows are hang up there. My friend assuming that it’s clever because “ViUDA” is considered refers to windows and widow. I wasn’t sure if that quite right. However, I enjoy spend time to sit down and look around in the room.

Service
The hosting is very friendly and suddenly greeting in American Sign Language (ASL). I feel like we’re in for business to order something from the waitresses who are some familiar with ASL. No need to speed up, the fast you get, you might lose taste.

Menus
I see lot of good listing such as steak and paste in unique visual on meals. Most are full of surprise. Yet, I’m in mood for good steak. It’s very tasty; I can tell they’re so fresh. Yet, they’re little expensive, I would say it’s $$$ out of $$$$$. Hey, there have Yak steak, it’s most expensive from I seen so far. I’ll try when I come back again.

Overall
I’ll come back again. I haven’t get chance to meet deaf chefs. They’re so busy to cook for many customers. Only the quite time I had with the hosting and the owner. They’re also helpful when we weren’t familiar on some meals on what or how we suppose to eat. They’re available open on most weekend on evening. Check their video in ASL! Sorry, no closed caption!

After arrive from Korea, I was here in Los Angeles Intl. Airport. I had trouble on look for shuttle bus that takes to the hotel. There are no specs for me to hop in there.

So, I decide to look for TTY or free Wi-Fi available. It’s more like I’m desperate for Wi-Fi to hook up with my iPod Touch to use ZVRS app. However, I saw the booth at the department with the sign said “Hotel Booth”. There is 3 touch-screen devices include handset individual to make the call for hotel. I thought it would be nice if it include e-mail or relay service.

Wait a minute! There is TTY mode at the bottom. I thought it’s fancy! I could go ahead and click the button. It changes to all icons from telephone to TTY mode. I made the select on where hotel I’m going to stay at.

After make the select to make the call, it takes me to the 2 empty box with keyboard on the screen. It’s really cool that I would type on the screen. I get no reply anything from the hotel. I decide to give a shot to typing.

What the? The virtual keyboard is joke, it hardly responds where I type the keyboard. That got me unpatience and try to typing something, which is not normal as I, experience with iPod Touch’s. It’s very difficult to typing. I had to slow and touch once a time to have the character appears on the display. That’s waste my time. Suddenly, itself hang up without say “Hello? Hello?”. That’s lame.

It’s nice features but it just that it’s not friendly technology and probably hotel staff still don’t know how to handle on respond with TTY if that exist to all of them. Gawd, all I can say, it’s not great tool. I end up ask someone to call hotel for me

Here is the guide that should help when you’re concern and/or be prepare when go through TSA (Transportation Security Administration) before get in airplane.

If you need to communicate with the Security Officer, inform her/him of your disability and the way in which you can communicate. TSA Security Officers are trained to provide whatever assistance they can to persons with hearing disabilities.

If the screening process is unclear to you, motion to the Security Officer that you can’t hear and ask him/her to ask the Security Officer to write the information down.

If you can read lips or are hard of hearing, ask the Security Officer to look directly at you and repeat the information slowly.

It is not necessary to remove hearing aids or the exterior component of a cochlear implant at security checkpoints.

It is best if you wear your hearing device while going through the metal detector.

According to Otolaryngologist and Otolaryngology surgeons, hearing devices such as hearing aids, cochlear implants, external component of cochlear implants, and middle ear implants are not affected by X-ray inspection or walk-through metal detector screening. In addition, these devices may also safely be screened using Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT).

If you are concerned or uncomfortable with going through the walk-thorough metal detector, or are uneasy with having your external component of your cochlear implant X-rayed, you can ask for a full body pat-down of your person and a visual and physical inspection of the exterior component while it remains on your body.

Assistive listening devices must undergo x-ray screening.

If you use a hearing dog, you and the dog will remain together at all times while going through the security checkpoint. See the “Service Animal” section for more tips on service animals in the screening process.

» source

I don’t want to miss my next travel. I’m so looking forward on going to New York City in February 2011. I know I’m getting sick of the security went too far as you think so. Thank for head up, KristinaB!

Nobody know waterfall, more like just few location does know. Now, that’s secret spot, really awesome. Well, now… It’s no longer secret. I’m telling you! It’s location in Westworth Village, closer to Air Force base.

I know it’s not actual Trinty River that people would mistook. It’s actual Farmer’s Branch Creek. There is small park-a-lot spot for anybody to park there. Don’t come during rain because of no pavement, it would be terrible and muddy for your vehicle to drag there, unless you own monster truck. Then you walk pretty much as 10 minutes, when you go slowly in heat day. There are pretty scene and fresh nice cement path for people to jogging. You would see branch of goats, and sometime, you would see chicken around there. I wish it’s wild but it’s belonged to ranches.

Anyway, here the story, from what I read the other blog said that it once being private property that nobody know but the owner who knew. It slow spread in quiet years. Until someone finally make fund and open city’s public park for anybody make access to see pretty spot. Thank to George Shannon!

To have videophone appliance on laptop like Z4 or P3 in airplane with Wi-Fi, it matches in heaven. We could call anywhere while in thousand feet up in sky. I have done it once a while. It was great.

However until someone mentions that there is new policy from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Wi-Fi issues over the communications thing. Here is the last paragraph of “WiFi in the Sky” from the fact sheet:

While passengers are welcome to access the web, U.S. airlines offering WiFi service block the use of inflight calling using Skype or similar applications. This is not an FAA restriction; they are simply responding to the overwhelming majority of their customers, who prefer silent communications to the public nature of Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) calls.

That would include our videophone if steward saw us use American Sign Language (ASL) to make awesome communicate. They would probably panic and tell us to turn it off and use Instant Messenger instead.

Man, it would probably hurt the deaf community if there is more commercial airlines start to blocks every video conversation. I guess what someone saying on other weblog. That he or she thinks it’s like terrorist thing. That’s no fun.
