Location
ViUDA Bistro, the restaurant is located in Buda, which is south of Austin at the historic downtown area, which is inspired me. The place make it very special place to eat.

Place
Inside, it’s cozy, mix the old building with some modern art place on wall and ceil where the windows are hang up there. My friend assuming that it’s clever because “ViUDA” is considered refers to windows and widow. I wasn’t sure if that quite right. However, I enjoy spend time to sit down and look around in the room.

Service
The hosting is very friendly and suddenly greeting in American Sign Language (ASL). I feel like we’re in for business to order something from the waitresses who are some familiar with ASL. No need to speed up, the fast you get, you might lose taste.

Menus
I see lot of good listing such as steak and paste in unique visual on meals. Most are full of surprise. Yet, I’m in mood for good steak. It’s very tasty; I can tell they’re so fresh. Yet, they’re little expensive, I would say it’s $$$ out of $$$$$. Hey, there have Yak steak, it’s most expensive from I seen so far. I’ll try when I come back again.

Overall
I’ll come back again. I haven’t get chance to meet deaf chefs. They’re so busy to cook for many customers. Only the quite time I had with the hosting and the owner. They’re also helpful when we weren’t familiar on some meals on what or how we suppose to eat. They’re available open on most weekend on evening. Check their video in ASL! Sorry, no closed caption!

Deaf Jane Doe aka Amy aka Samantha
Deaf Jane Doe, (actress: McKenzie Applegate) is the scary girl who tried asking for a help. From what I understand the situation on being abuse that anyone would trends to have blank face or grief after being shock. Since I do not see much of the expressive while make out of communicate with ASL. That what I would agree on how her perform appears. Her true parents appear to know ASL. That’s one question I would like to know if they’re deaf or not. My best guess, they’re hearing, I’m sure.

Oh, if you wonder if that actress, Applegate, is deaf or hearing. Just unfortunately that actress is hearing and had skill in ASL or either being train. She just makes her perform that well. I recall by seen her in Desperate Housewife a while time ago.

Lawyer, Interpreter or Social Work?
Meacham (actress: Michelle L. Gardner) told that she is attorney who know ASL and protect for Jane Doe while Dr. Bones is need to follow from the court’s order, have Jane Doe to be cooperate by take some sample from her mouth and hair. Yet, from what I seen that Meacham’s role act like if she is social work the way she is assist the communicate for her like if she is an interpreter.

It’s rare to seen lawyer who have ability in ASL. Yes, it would be nice and wonderful service to have one. I’m not sure about 100% on how the system works. By the way that Gardner, the actress is hearing.

American Regional Sign Language
Just an concept as “American Regional English” when Dr. Bones figures on where Deaf Jane Doe’s sign language come from. It’s neat that they’re using high-tech to detect on her sign to find the word it match where is base from location – Pennsylvania. It makes excellent sense on how we grew up from school and friends in which location and become our prime communicate. It’s like you said, “Coke” in Southern and “Pop” in Northeastern.

I thought it’s amazing technology to find different sign language that would tell where from. I’m sure that you may remember example from CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: The Two Mrs. Grissoms where Marlee Matlin played in, someone was able to realize from someone’s unique sign that tell where the region is from. This time, that one is much different. However, I do not think they would able to make specs on where location is, if it just a luck show up.

Final thought
I enjoy when I don’t hear any issues with Cochlear implant (CI) like the first 3 or 4 shows like CSI, Law & Order and House MD that had to be involve with CI. That program makes thing feel more reality to deal with deaf when they’re in trouble. I’m little disappointment that find out that actress who plays as Deaf Jane Doe isn’t actual deaf. So, I give it 4 out of 5.

What I like about thing on IP-Relay app, it have friendly keypad just like it give you an experience to call on your own instead use AOL Instant Messaging. Heck, it make quick to dial up. It also went along with current contact on what you have in your iPhone or iPod Touch.

When I dial, it seems obviously understood by identity over my device. Of course, it requires us to register by FCC for E911. It went over the web browser to input my information, it’s base on who you are, your email and your resident address. After done for short minutes and approve. It instantly gives me own 10-digit numbers. That’s quick than I thought.

After finish register, I went back and open IP-Relay and dial someone who is hearing, it being identity without me to log in. I think it’s probably made much easy and hassle-free when I want to make quick call without lose the save on login. It quick acknowledges my device’s ID.

The agent typing is the closer as I experience at online, you don’t even need put GA, because it auto done for us after hit the ENTER. It give the individual line to know which is mine and their. It’s friendly visual. For few minutes of conversation, I find it something to complain that app won’t allow us to change to landscape, because it would make easy to have wide virtual keyboard on display, because the standup is somewhere difficult to typing like I have been told in begin on iPhone’s first introduce.

Anyway, when I want to finish the conversation, I don’t need to typing “SKSK”, you just simple press “Hangup”, it will auto send SKSK to agent. It will asked me if I want to storage the conversation, you would click to copy and then paste to the Note app.

Allover, I think it’s great, there are quite amount of deaf I knew, own iPhone would be happy to have IP-relay app. Did I mention, it’s free?

UPDATE 11:58am CST: Seem that IP-Relay app on iTunes have been disappear on search. Only it work when I had to go to website and click, it open iTunes to find right one for me.

UPDATE 10:53pm CST: 10-digit isn’t work, I give that number to hearing to have them call me. That when I open IP-Relay on my iPod Touch. I don’t see incoming pop-up on the dispay. That sucks. Maybe it work on iPhone. Did anyone have it work?

For example, the first panel, you can see well friendly for AccuWeather include 5-days forcast. However, the second panel of The Weather Channel is far better, it comes with animation where the rain would move. So, I decide to keep both applications to keep on my phone.

I have been doing it with XMeeting on my own time to test all 15+ Video Relay Service (VRS). Yes, you can dial with full address instead ip-address (Ex. dialing usvrs.tv). It appears that XMeeting works well with any VRS, except Sorenson VRS that you cannot doing at home. Why? Because that VRS will be redirect to your VP-200 during the primary id-address that being recognition. Outside on Free or Paid Wi-fi is question if that work with Sorenson VRS. It’s safe to tell, don’t use it!

Anyway, back to XMeeting, as I told it works so well. BUT, it doesn’t work after 5 minutes when it become terrible quality as the relay agent wouldn’t able to see me in clearly. It becomes useless, unlike iChat.

I don’t think that XMeeting is not smart enough to keep the frame running smooth as iChat. That’s worst that I couldn’t use my smartphone as tethering to my computer to use as videophone anywhere. It appear on both view on mine view and their’s view to be worst lapse that relay agent wouldn’t accept my call. Use it on your own risk. I couldn’t recommend it as your videophone call with VRS. But the only one VRS I couldn’t promise but able to keep you with you is BiSVRS. Point-to-Point or computer to videophone will be okay for now.

Unless you know how to make configuration correct on Xmeeting’s setting. Neverless…. I’m wait for new update to improve! Hang on! Otherwise, I’m struck with HOVRS (VRS only) with iChat for a while.

I found out about Krown Manufacturing, Inc’s KA1000RR Remote Receiver and KA1000TR Telephone Ringer (transmitter). Its cost almost hundred bucks total on both device. At bright side, it’s 5 bucks cheap than Sonic Alert TR75VRM and SA101 combine, which more like cause false during crazy impulse with other electrics in house. I aware there is also another truly wireless videophone signaler which is Deafworks’ X-10 but it’s totally rip-off and ugly than Sonic Alert’s.

KA1000TR is smaller transmitter that have a telephone jack for plug in the back of videophone. KA1000RR is a remote receiver with outlet for plug to any lamp to flashing. It can turn it ON or OFF while it will alert to flashing.

I find interest that setting is very easy. All I do is press to hold on KA1000RR’s button while press transmitter’s button for just 3 seconds. Then it will understand each other and ready to use. It’s quiet nice.

• Pricey but it’s still cheap than any videophone signaler in market *shurg*

From what I understand that Remote Receiver can do more than just for videophone. It also connect with any Krown’s transmitter that can be attachment with any device such as fire, smoke, on door to knock, etc. I did got transmitter as doorknock signaler. It work nice by place transmitter on inside door. Have someone knock the outside door, it will send signal to KA1000RR to alert. Sweet.

How do I know which transmitter send the signal and flashing? It has three different channels when set on transmitter. From what I seen that I set on Channel 1 as regular flash, Channel 2 is double flash then pause for second and repeat, and Channel 3 is slow flash. Now, I can relax and do something in living room and await for signal.

Final thought, don’t waste to buy one if you want be more freedom anywhere at home and travel. Use laptop with build-in wireless network and webcam is the best to have one, if you can afford one. Otherwise, you can get one when you want for another room, or get one for your family to keep in touch.

Ehh… my action is to take Centro. Red or pink, customer service asked me. I take red one, frankly, I wish there is black one but they don’t have one.

My first hand on Centro and I test it for couple hours after I sync to my laptop. Yes, I did backup what I have on Treo, since it running Palm OS. How fortunately for me, include all software and important information I have. For few minutes I have play around.

Instant Message
Centro’s IM already in there and it sucks because of limited buddy listing. I switch to my favorite Mundu and it didn’t work. So, I found new update Mundu 4.1 which function well on Centro. It allow me to send picture through AIM or Yahoo which is awesome.

E-Mail
I use ChatterEmail which I can get push e-mail like blackberry which is cool. Althought, I’m sad to know I couldn’t see LED flashing to let me know if I have new incoming message. I tried to set as pop-up to show i have new message. No, it show un-function as I couldn’t get in message or either turn it off. Text size doesn’t allow me to custom the way I like to read. The header where e-mail and subject go in the box, it appear none as it make me feel awkward to read like if something is wrong with my eye and brain.
UPDATE: Someone poke my shoulder, there is new ChatterEmail update that fix correct for Centro. I downloaded and it works so well, except the LED signaler that doesn’t flash but instead still LED on until I check it. It will turn off. That little weird but it’s okay for now.

Vibrating
The vibrating signaler is kinda weak when I put Centro in my pocket. Sure, it’s nice to have small device to feel more comfortable among to my hip. Unfortunately, I am miss some incoming message on time. For sake, I’m deaf!

QWERTY
The keyboard are so tiny, and it’s kind difficult for me to typing. The more I typing, it becomes little sore on my tip of thumb between nail and fresh. I guess I probably have to take time to get usually with tiny keyboard.

Memory
Centro have built-in 64 MB storage unlike Treo, which it have 128 MB, that’s double different. Of course, it have slot for memory card to add more. Unfortunately, Centro accept only micro-SD instead regular SD. That mean, I couldn’t use my digital camera’s SD to put in Centro and send some picture to friend or family. That’s really sucks.

Gawd! I want my Treo back! I think I’ll come back on Thursday to Sprint Repair Center to see if they have Treo 755p available. I recall one customer SVC staff said they won’t have Treo until 2 days later. So, hopefully, I can get new Treo. Or I could learn to love Centro. *gagging*

To tell you, I don’t subscribe cable but I use OTA (Over-the-air) to receive several channels from antenna what is available in my location what station would give. Basic, you know I able to watch in nice HD show: Fox, NBC, ABC, CBS and CW. It let me setup and record any of my favorite show while I’m not home. Closed caption does a great job, only very tiny scramble when weather or nothing gone wrong. Playback allows me to view with closed caption without loss. So, far I’m happy about it.

BUT…..
Only thing that each I record one of 1-hour show eat about 6 GB (gigabytes). I thought of export from several gig into less gig would work as if I can put on iPod in future. It’s unfortunately, I discovery no export that would allow to save along with closed caption track as it will lose. I have asked Elgato’s (they made EyeTV program) technical support to see if they have an answer about which format to export without loss.

UNFORTUNATELY, there isn’t as I understand as I mention you some time ago about both Quicktime and iTunes have offer Closed Caption feature that is early for the developer to meet. In future, they should have one once they understand something new. Or not…

History I had PDA that running under Palm OS in order:
• Visor Neo – It has no wireless, just like original PDA.
• i705 – my first wireless PDA, unfortunately Palm Network stop service
• Tungsten W – my first smartphone, but I lost and probably stole

Web browser, I select data plan only with SMS (text-msg) package. That data is incredible that I ever experience. It’s like Wi-Fi in long-range, the speed is nearly faster as DSL, since it’s under Sprint’s EvDO, the new fastest baud for data unlike EDGE (which is under GSM such as Cingular and T-Mobile). The test accord from dslreports.com/mspeed, I get nearly 900 kbps download and 100 kbps upload. Browser is much nice, it allow me two optional view – auto-fit the wide on display or standard in WYSIWYG (sort of). I able to check almost every website without flash and java. Heck, I can check for traffic, weather, web e-mail and more!

Palm’s VersaMail is fair, since it won’t vibrator with auto-sync to check by schedule to get new incoming message. Only wonderful that I can send with picture and open attachment like Tungsten, I had. So, I decide to use ChatteMail. I find is much better, unfortunately, it cost 40 bucks. I am still on 30-day trailer to see how well it can done for my need.

SMS is great, can’t argue, because it’s practice like conversation room and I can send picture (MMS), unfortunately, I didn’t select the package since I have e-mail to do for me.

Instant Messenger is very difficult to find good one. I am not comfortable with Sprint’s AIM that running on web like AIM Express. The receive message will be send like SMS that would charge that plan. So, I tried real AIM application for Palm. Unfortunately, it’s not work on advanced mobile phone. But good news, thank to my friend, he found an application called Toccer. It’s still beta. So far as I test, it does remind me of i705 how thing work. The only one bug, I found so far, it shaking forever like crazy when I turned away message mode and sleep mode. So, I cannot leave like that. I looking forward on complete version of Toccer. Currently, it’s .9v. I hear that VeriChat is far better, but it charge one time a year. It does much better like AIM on computer. It sound great!

Feature on Treo what I know so far…

• Bluetooth, it’s bit difficult, unlike Nokia’s, I manage to get it work with my laptop for exchange picture and modem network.
• Digital Camera 1.3 megapixel look very good for mobile I ever seen. Oh, the video mode able to make auto-focus while taping em during light and dark. That’s impressive compare to what my digital camera (Canon SD300) can’t do.
• QWERTY seem does improve much than previous Treo model. It take few hours of curve learner and I getting comfortable to typing.
• Display is very brightness and allow me to control from low to high.
• Battery is average 1 to 2 days, depend how often I use. Good thing, it’s replaceable battery and it include two different charger: USB power to laptop and outlet without two split unlike Tungsten which is awful.
• The signaler under Sprint is always on, no dropping network so far. It’s easy to turn signaler off and use it during offline. Love it!
• HotSync work great with Mac OS, it’s bitter faster than before.
• Navigator is great.
• Keyguard is easy!

Overall, I thought how great Treo 700p can handle that much I like. Several thing, i would need to get know more when I’m out of city and other way to get thing work. Oh yeah, the size is bitter fair when i put it in my pocket. It’s not too bad but I would need an accessories that carry for me. If that fit well for my need.
