Yeah, it’s cool to have leave-message video from my Sorenson VP-200. When I enter there and open the video. Whoa. I see a lady in video, she have bandage on her arm. Look like have an incident from somewhere else. However, she is still on duty to interpret on what hearing leave the “voice” for me.

Man… I’m not able to make out on what she saying to me. With one-hand sign language give me a more time to understand than usually 2-hand. How about you?

Think about it, I required having two hands to sign such as “school”, “clapping” or something like that. My brain function is pretty slow to catch on one-hand. I ask several people who think of iPhone. Can you deal with it? Probably 30-70 can deal with it. I’m not… not even I appreciate it.

As you may aware there are several states have law required for Deaf who rent apartment, house, etc., are require to provide visual smoke alarm. I hope that there are more states are universal on required like one.

However, I would like to share my brief experience that I live in the apartment. Before my roommate and I move in, we request to be sure they have the visual smoke alarm install. So, they did install 4 detectors with green LED light: 2 in bedrooms, one in living room and one in hall room. I was glad that system works out well for us.

THE INCIDENT
Until few months ago, there was an incident on next unit building; there was fire or accident that turn the alert and spread to other building to aware of warning. It was a late morning as we both still up. At first, we weren’t aware of the alert. Thank to my best friend, who able to hear the detector turn pretty loud as I barely can hear it. My roommate doesn’t hear anything at all. For quite time, the alert has finally stopped. Nothing serious has happen; there was just a minor incident. We’re glad that doesn’t damage well.

Suddenly, I realize there was no strobe, just sound. Be understand, there are 2 separate alarm system, one detector alert for inside house and another detector is for warning that there is fire/smoke from other building. I start being concern on how I can know if the visual smoke alarm is work properly.

ISSUES WITH SL177
At first, I thought I would need to make test to make sure to test. It’s normally that everybody should check to test for every month to make sure it works. Its very recommend from fire depart. Yet, I DO NOT see the test button around on visual smoke alarm. I have to make a quick research to find out what kind model that I thought I would find the instruction booklet on tell me how to push the test button. By the way, the model called SL177 from First Alert.

It tells me that visual smoke alarm does have the test button and I still do not see it! Yet the booklet did mention that it does have one… from the main detector that controls the all detectors. I puzzled and decide to make a request from apartment office to have them test our visual smoke detector. I was hope if they know what to do that we don’t. We need to make sure it’s work properly, even after the incident; it doesn’t appear the signal for us.

We, my roommate and I was upset that it’s third time within near 3 months, we had to make request from apartment office until they finally come and check to test the detector. Turn out; there is main detector miss!!! While that we have all four are just “sibling”. That’s why it needs the main one that control all to test. They remove one and install the correct detector only in hall room. It does have test button to click to hold for 5-second and it have AMAZING strobe in every rooms. We could be blind! That’s great.

LESSON HAS LEARN
Apartment staffs make their mistake by install all “sibling” visual smoke alarm without the main one. They may be new with detector but they didn’t read the instruction careful. It’s also our responsible; include you, to test if it’s work and report to apartment office if it doesn’t work.

It is! Duh!

I admit I thought of something funny going on. Even I tried use my videophone number on one of insurance company which I couldn’t recall that name. I was applying to find out the quote. The error appears that they couldn’t recognition on area code. So, I had to use my mobile phone number, if even they tried call me. I’m helpless.

However, it led me to think about what’s up with my videophone number. So, I decide to look up on WhitePages.com to check out if that number able to reverse the information on where I live.

Yep, it shows as landline and estimate on where I live. Therefore, it should prove that my number isn’t bull.

You can check if your videophone number is real local number then Sorenson did a good job. – WhitePages.com. Thank Miss-Delectable for head up!

We could call anywhere while in thousand feet up in sky. I have done it once a while. It was great.

However until someone mentions that there is new policy from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Wi-Fi issues over the communications thing. Here is the last paragraph of “WiFi in the Sky” from the fact sheet:

While passengers are welcome to access the web, U.S. airlines offering WiFi service block the use of inflight calling using Skype or similar applications. This is not an FAA restriction; they are simply responding to the overwhelming majority of their customers, who prefer silent communications to the public nature of Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) calls.

That would include our videophone if steward saw us use American Sign Language (ASL) to make awesome communicate. They would probably panic and tell us to turn it off and use Instant Messenger instead.

Man, it would probably hurt the deaf community if there is more commercial airlines start to blocks every video conversation. I guess what someone saying on other weblog. That he or she thinks it’s like terrorist thing. That’s no fun.

Thought I want to tell something when I receive news about Purple being bust by Federal. It seem that unknown author who spread the news on that weblog called “PurpleDead“. That person sound like being glad about it. Probably, he or she is such an angry person as I think of. Anyway, I look up on something that I feel something is funny going on.

Name of Weblog is “PurpleDead”, I think that’s immature and pointless.

That weblog have only one and probably will never again.

Their profile doesn’t reveal, probably work for Sorenson, hard-cord fan of SVRS, etc.

The source given by Biz.Yahoo have no actual reference or original on whom report. (okay, maybe I don’t know that part)

The only true I know about Purple, they’re not bankrupt. Not yet, because there is no confirm at moment.

Don’t be jumpy until we have the actual fact information about Purple. Don’t be sorry for them, just do whatever you like their service or not. I only like them because I was able to use on my MacBook to use VRS with iChat.

Since quite amount of deaf who own iPhone to meet their happy-dom. Great. And someone think of use mobile phone as bed shaker. Great. But iPhone isn’t great idea to place under your bed because anyone probably would smash the whole glasses plate. No fear, there is awesome accessories for iPhone. It also works with iPod Touch if you have one.

A friend of mine, show me that there is cool speaker system for iPhone. Surprise, it comes with bed shaker with few awesome features that does something with iPhone. It’s pretty expensive but it’s probably different and much worth in part of style in bedroom than dull Sonic Alert thing. It got cool display than any alarm clock with bed shaker.

I find it weird that it come with sound along the bed shaker, that’s something for hearing to get. For myself, I’m not sure during some reason on cost and some features to meet my need. Well, you can check it out and see if that suit for you. Cheer!

ZVRS was first introduce (unsure who claim but my own witness) Z4 the software that support both Mac and PC. I thought that would be great. I have been await for kind software where I could use and call direct from my MacBook.

Yet, there is Sprint Relay does offer software compatible for Mac and PC. I start to notice both are similar engineer software on how to use. I haven’t download when ZVRS was first introduce. This time, I was able to download from Sprint Relay’s site. And I found the source on where it comes from. It’s <a href="Mirial Softphone“>Mirial Softphone.

Look like Mirial have development, well, smart application that can be use both Mac and PC to make the video conferencing. It makes sense because it can be compatible with 4G wireless. What’s smart thing about Sprint, they would able to sell 4G modem to use for either PC or Mac laptop. It’s match in heaven to use anywhere.

» Source: Mirial – VVoIP solution and HD video conferencing over IP, 3G and IMS

UPDATE 02.23.10 9:29 AM: @williebike CSDVRS/ZVRS provides the technical solution to couple different VRS companies- and Sprint is one of them.

It’s true Typing Relay Service for smartphone that’s what I look for. I installed on my iPod Touch, it also work, too, only when you’re connect to Wi-Fi while iPhone can be anywhere with coverage available.

What I like about thing on IP-Relay app, it have friendly keypad just like it give you an experience to call on your own instead use AOL Instant Messaging. Heck, it make quick to dial up. It also went along with current contact on what you have in your iPhone or iPod Touch.

When I dial, it seems obviously understood by identity over my device. Of course, it requires us to register by FCC for E911. It went over the web browser to input my information, it’s base on who you are, your email and your resident address. After done for short minutes and approve. It instantly gives me own 10-digit numbers. That’s quick than I thought.

After finish register, I went back and open IP-Relay and dial someone who is hearing, it being identity without me to log in. I think it’s probably made much easy and hassle-free when I want to make quick call without lose the save on login. It quick acknowledges my device’s ID.

The agent typing is the closer as I experience at online, you don’t even need put GA, because it auto done for us after hit the ENTER. It give the individual line to know which is mine and their. It’s friendly visual. For few minutes of conversation, I find it something to complain that app won’t allow us to change to landscape, because it would make easy to have wide virtual keyboard on display, because the standup is somewhere difficult to typing like I have been told in begin on iPhone’s first introduce.

Anyway, when I want to finish the conversation, I don’t need to typing “SKSK”, you just simple press “Hangup”, it will auto send SKSK to agent. It will asked me if I want to storage the conversation, you would click to copy and then paste to the Note app.

Allover, I think it’s great, there are quite amount of deaf I knew, own iPhone would be happy to have IP-relay app. Did I mention, it’s free?

PRO
• Friendly dial keypad include the special instruction note
• Contact is support
• View on History of dialed calls
• GA auto include after submit the message
• Hang up auto send SKSK

CON
• Landscape virtual keyboard not support
<del datetime="2010-02-18T17:58:26+00:00">• No font resize</del>
• Not ideal to make call while on move during data loss
• Use copy and paste the conversation to notepad instead its own
• While on call, it needs to protect from have accident press button to return the front

UPDATE 11:58am CST: Seem that IP-Relay app on iTunes have been disappear on search. Only it work when I had to go to website and click, it open iTunes to find right one for me.

UPDATE 10:53pm CST: 10-digit isn’t work, I give that number to hearing to have them call me. That when I open IP-Relay on my iPod Touch. I don’t see incoming pop-up on the dispay. That sucks. Maybe it work on iPhone. Did anyone have it work?
