New next product of Zune HD is release. It sounds like excite for everybody. For not deaf or hearing impaired, it’s unfortunately for the billion-dollar-industry like Microsoft doesn’t offer closed caption (CC) on video player.

Why… You can see that Netflix is using Microsoft’s video player as steam video that everybody wonder why we can’t get to see in CC? It won’t hurt if the business would accept to earn our money to boost 10% out of 30 million deaf customers. It could be that they’re too rich and don’t need our money for extra-being-rich.

Currently, iPod lineup is the ONLY media portable player that ever offers CC. Enjoy it when you can. I have quite amount of deaf actual own iPod, iPod Touch and iPhone, they can even enjoy over hundred of movies from iTunes with CC.

So far, I have been play around. It seem that application appear to be bit different than the previous version. So, I thought I should show you on how to find movie with closed caption (CC) available. There are some good and bad.

Good thing, there is still plenty movies with CC. Bad is, it wouldn’t know how much exactly there is. I would have to count myself. It’s such a waste time. However, here is simple step on the thumbnail that you should know where to find. Beware, it scrolls narrow slow during loading the information and picture of poster.

First, I thought it would be good news to reduce download the illegal software or video. But it would be bad for user who uses iTunes to download LEGAL video. For a moment, I forget about videophone. It would be bad news. I figure on how much bandwidth it would use on video stream during base of one-hour conversation. It depends on heavy motion.

<del datetime="2008-11-07T19:34:34+00:00">It doesn’t look good. I smell the riot over ISP issues. Okay, maybe send letter to communicate company is good to start to have them listen us. Fire away!</del>

I got confuse with bits and bytes. Therefore, I make mistake and update the correct calculator. Therefore, it’s approximately 345 Mbytes per hour. It’s not too bad. I hope.

I notice that most common videophone (VP) equipment being local next to router and modem. Few are willing to place VP for private conference such as in bedroom with wire (Cat5) around on floor. It makes thing look pretty ugly (messy). I asked, years ago, with several Sorenson staffs about if it’s possible to turn the videophone until wireless. The response were “No”, “Yes”, and “I don’t know, let me ask other technician”.

Well… Few weeks ago, I decided I want to set the videophone in bedroom for private conference. I found the answer through google that someone who claims he able to set his video with wireless gaming adapter. However, it been told that it can slow down. I believe that product that person have one may not good one. Or that person live in the big house that speed can havoc the speed. Make a research on gaming adapter device over online, I found and decide to get Linksys Wireless Gaming Adapter G (WGA54G). The review from vary website that show it’s good. Of course, it’s very popular for video game system such as Xbox. Of course, it never mention the ideal for video conference.

The step, I set up while I already have MY OWN WIRELESS ROUTER…
1. Add WEP or MAC address to allow connect WGA54G from the computer
2. Plug wireless gaming Adapter with Cat5 to videophone
3. Crossing finger for few second

Start with called Sorenson Video Relay Service (SVRS) as test; it appears the video running smooth without lag. Impressive… So, I decide to try calling my friend in videophone with long-term conversation. There is no lag, too. I must say I’m glad it works great.
NOTE: I haven’t change anything on VP-200′s setting

STATUS
• Wireless up to 100 feet CHECK
• Allow make incoming and outcoming call CHECK
• Free-lag within hour CHECK
• Private and alone in room CHECK

NOTE: If you live big home, you would want either to have 802.11n wireless equipment or antenna boost for 802.11g. It’s bit expensive. Network security is important to protect your Internet from have someone steal it. Oh yeah, you also can set gaming adapter with VPAD for room to use. (not carry around)

Since you everybody know that I have Treo’s display cracked. I manage my spare time by go to Sprint Repair Center. They told that they cannot repair the display and offer two option that I could get Centro without any charge and no affect on my current contract. Or I could go to other city, like 30 minutes and get my display repair for 2 days as I couldn’t have in my pocket for a while.

Ehh… my action is to take Centro. Red or pink, customer service asked me. I take red one, frankly, I wish there is black one but they don’t have one.

My first hand on Centro and I test it for couple hours after I sync to my laptop. Yes, I did backup what I have on Treo, since it running Palm OS. How fortunately for me, include all software and important information I have. For few minutes I have play around.

My reply…. I HATE IT!

Why? Glad you ask…

Instant Message
Centro’s IM already in there and it sucks because of limited buddy listing. I switch to my favorite Mundu and it didn’t work. So, I found new update Mundu 4.1 which function well on Centro. It allow me to send picture through AIM or Yahoo which is awesome.

E-Mail
I use ChatterEmail which I can get push e-mail like blackberry which is cool. Althought, I’m sad to know I couldn’t see LED flashing to let me know if I have new incoming message. I tried to set as pop-up to show i have new message. No, it show un-function as I couldn’t get in message or either turn it off. Text size doesn’t allow me to custom the way I like to read. The header where e-mail and subject go in the box, it appear none as it make me feel awkward to read like if something is wrong with my eye and brain.
UPDATE: Someone poke my shoulder, there is new ChatterEmail update that fix correct for Centro. I downloaded and it works so well, except the LED signaler that doesn’t flash but instead still LED on until I check it. It will turn off. That little weird but it’s okay for now.

Vibrating
The vibrating signaler is kinda weak when I put Centro in my pocket. Sure, it’s nice to have small device to feel more comfortable among to my hip. Unfortunately, I am miss some incoming message on time. For sake, I’m deaf!

QWERTY
The keyboard are so tiny, and it’s kind difficult for me to typing. The more I typing, it becomes little sore on my tip of thumb between nail and fresh. I guess I probably have to take time to get usually with tiny keyboard.

Memory
Centro have built-in 64 MB storage unlike Treo, which it have 128 MB, that’s double different. Of course, it have slot for memory card to add more. Unfortunately, Centro accept only micro-SD instead regular SD. That mean, I couldn’t use my digital camera’s SD to put in Centro and send some picture to friend or family. That’s really sucks.

Gawd! I want my Treo back! I think I’ll come back on Thursday to Sprint Repair Center to see if they have Treo 755p available. I recall one customer SVC staff said they won’t have Treo until 2 days later. So, hopefully, I can get new Treo. Or I could learn to love Centro. *gagging*

VRS have give away every deaf a free videophone. I felt its bad influence that may lead deaf become desperate for a free thing. The old quote in economy always said, “There is no such a free lunch”.

What I’m saying that we, all deaf, should be same as the hearing. They buy telephone equipment and they paid telephone service to use and call anywhere. That mean, we buy videophone equipment and we pay ISP (cable or DSL) to call. I don’t care if they can’t afford it. There is always money to earn from government such as voucher or job that pays you. If the videophone cost around $50, it should be no problem.

From what I understand that there is VRS offer free for ONLY DEAF. Can’t their hearing family or hearing friends get one to reach with them? Basic, they cannot get one until Sorenson or more other VRS does offer but it not that much. That’s kind cruel to me.

Request for video and VRS send technical supports to install for you. But they may mess or focus to change your router to accept it. I don’t like it… Should have set videophone by yourself with EASY three step, just same as computer! Anyone brought telephone or computer, you plug the line, it successful connects. Why can’t videophone do the same thing? My ideal it should be simple set by plug Ethernet and enter their name, key code and area code, and have VRS’s server regenerate the number for you. Then it’s ready for you to call whoever you want to.

Personally, I want wireless videophone. But I have laptop with built-in webcam, can’t complain that.

I’m excited to announce news about iPhone. First, I would like to thank my friend who own iPhone that she loaned to me. As you know I have movie Italian Job (2003) with Closed Caption which works great on iTunes on computer.

Well, after I sync from my laptop to iPhone. It took quite some time to upload. Anyway, there is system setting to change Closed Caption enable ON then play the movie on iPhone. The Closed Caption shows up good. It’s readable, the display appears like standard as my preview post that show similar style black bar.

I have strong feeling that iPod Touch should be similar to iPhone as long as it shows the Closed Caption ON under the system setting. I’m looking forward to get iPod Touch someday when there is a new one and more memory storage.
