The VPAD does not use X-Meeting. Like you said, X-Meeting is for Mac OS X. The VPAD is not a Mac. The specs on the VPAD *do* say that it is standards based, supporting both SIP and H.323 protocols. Maybe you are confusing H.323 with X-Meeting? If you've found X-Meeting to not be stable then that's a X-Meeting problem and not at ALL related to the VPAD being in beta testing.

To my surprise, the VPAD uses X-meeting software as the main videoconferencing mode. As a longtime Mac user, I had an opportunity to test the X-meeting on my Macbook Pro to call VRS and found this problemic wih stablility. You are right that this software is in the beta stage and should not be used until it is completely fixed and free of bugs.

I think VPAD will do good for the Deaf and HH community. If the device meets my needs then I'm willing to spend up to $500 bucks. Not everything is free for the Deaf. Indeed, money don't grow on trees. We are lucky to have that kind of technology these days.

I highly doubt that VPAD will be given to deaf people at no cost unless I may be wrong. It would be nice to have VPAD but I am getting very annoying when there are too way many kinds of VRS such as HOVRS, CSDVRS, SVRS, and so on the list.

People like you never cease to amaze me. You can't have the police use VRS to communicate with you if the police is in the same room (or outdoor space) as you are. It is illegal to use VRS to call a person in the same room as you are or same space. This is illegal according to FCC. You are required to dial one phone number to use the VRS with a person outside the room or space. Just to use Video Remote Interpreting (different than VRS) local police department must be in already set agreement with Viable to use their Video Remote Interpreting service if needed. Local police are always contracted with local interpreting agencies. Same rules apply to all other VRS. Many deaf have to learn about this. Also, money don't grow out of trees.
